About Us
I started a blog about Christian hope and expectations for several reasons:
- I am a student and teacher of psychology. As such, I have a keen interest in human nature.
- I am an ethicist. I believe in good and evil, right and wrong.
- I am a theist. I believe that rational thought requires me to believe in God.
- I am a spiritualist. My experiences and intuition reveal a reality that is largely unperceived in typical ways.
- I am a statistician. Not a “professional” statistician, or even a mathematician. I think statistically.
- I am convinced that modern Western Christians are deeply (but not hopelessly!) confused about hope and expectations.
For some people these characteristics will seem quite contradictory. For example, many people believe that being rational and being spiritual are mutually exclusive. I’m sure that they are true to their own perceptions of reality and logic. However, I am also aware that human nature, especially the mind, is subject to the biases and expectations of rearing, culture and genetics. The inability or unwillingness to experience or intuit something does not mean it doesn’t exist. On the other hand, experiences and intuition imply some level of reality, even if it is “all in the mind.” Since the mind and, in turn, our behavior, has significant effects on us and the world around us, I choose to accept all experiences and intuitions as real, and potentially powerful.
If you wonder what all this has to do with pi, you’ll have to start reading. If you figure it out, let me know!
